“TERESA”

“Life is never hopeless however great your sorrow
If you’re looking forward to a new tomorrow.”

“Teresa” (Hiring my way)
by Maya

After my arrival in the US (a political refugee from Czechoslovakia, I went through some temporary “employment” such as babysitting while perfecting my English in the meantime, and finally, after few months I have found my first job with a clothing company in NYC as seasonal help.

However, in 2 weeks’ time, I’ve been offered a permanent contract and shortly became head of inventory control. As usual, with lightning speed, I boldly pointed out disorganized office matters and offered to fix it, drawing on my previous experience from the position I held back in my country.
So besides still keeping inventory control under my thumb, I became office manager, handled shipments from China, (the company was one of the first ones dealing with China) delegated daily tasks to others, plus I became the vice-president’s “right hand”.

He was my direct boss N.M. (his real initials). He was middle-aged, a rather overweight man with a good heart though, who gave me a lot of authority and listened to my every suggestion, because my improvements worked really well. Also, we became very good working friends. In season we’ve worked often overtime and he knew he could rely on me. All went very well then, the company was growing, and so were my duties and N. mentioned a few times that I myself could use some assistant.

When I came across this photo, it brought my memories of that time back to me. The photo is showing Teresa, my assistant, and myself in my office.
I always attracted people on my way through life, whom I did help somehow and she was one of them…

So, one evening I worked with my boss taking care of some faxes for China. There was a knocking on our locked door and I went to check who it out. There was a man, looking very humble and rather haggard, acting desperate and speaking very broken English. He said that he is a new immigrant from Poland and he is desperately looking for some work for his wife. Anything would be OK, sweeping floors, anything. He had already found something for himself and was about to start his work, but with very low pay. They had 2 small children.
I told him to come with his wife tomorrow at 8 am.

N.: asked me: “Who was it?”
I said: “N., I just hired my assistant.”
N.: “What?”
I: “But N., you constantly saying that I should get one.”
N.: “But I thought you would conduct some interviews?”
I: “Yes, she will be here tomorrow morning.
And by the way, she doesn’t speak any English, yet…”
N.: “What?”
I: “Don’t worry, dear, I speak Polish.”

So this is how Teresa got her job as my “right hand” and became devoted to me and also became my very good friend. I took care that regardless of her lack of English she was respected as my assistant. You can see in the picture how she is posing herself with me, that small stuffed animal on the corner of my desk is from her. She was always trying to bring me coffee. I had to translate for her in front of N. who said: “Maya never asks anyone to bring her coffee from our kitchen, so you do it.” I said again to ” N. “I get it myself because I also need some movement, I have to sit the whole day.”

Anyway, the agreement was that Teresa would take care of all filling (which was job plenty enough) and be my assistant in all I might need. Other bosses were informed if they need something from her, they would simply tell me. Otherwise, nobody else had a right to her.

She turned out to be an excellent worker, all was always in order, she was efficient and accomplished.
N. liked to say: “ You did train her well.” But I told him that what I did is to show her how. If it were not in person already, it would never bring forth what is not there. I was very satisfied with her, also by a chance question I discovered that she was a very talented swimmer, winning several medals in competitions for Poland. I guessed she was a swimmer, having strong, wide shoulders and she was very pleased. She always brought some small goodies for me, which I tried to forbid, but with no success. We had a lot of work but also good times together.
She eventually, some years later returned with her family back to Poland, not exact info. because after 5 yrs with the company received a very good offer elsewhere.
So this is one small episode from the beginnings of my life in the US and as I mentioned, the picture somehow caused me to reminiscence…

Thank you for reading…you know, even small looking back at those times means a lot to me…
All the best, always,
Maya

On a really personal note:

Dear Teresa,
I know you most likely never come across this page (your children now are grown and you live now most likely in your native country…) Still, I always remember you and many others starting in the USA, at the beginning very difficult, but FREE lives. So here is my gift to you as a memory.
All the love, M.

“Heavy path”

The hard way in life leads us,
The harsh law rules this world,
Only the strongest their way to the end will pass
And the weak on the road dies
Only the strongest their way to the end will pass
And the weak on the road die.

The autumn changes summers every year,
Cold wind flocks of birds knocking down,
Far away the birds preparing for their flights
But the weak and helpless are abandoned.

When the soul is tired of adversity,
And the heart as a steel spring pulls,
I look with longing at the blue sky,
I remember the birds left in a foreign land.

To the south in the sky, the wedge leader conducts,
To the homeland of the birds, tiredly trying
In distant birds, a flight is sent,
Powerless in a foreign land leaving behind

When in the night from the bitter tears I can not sleep,
I often reflect with sadness and anxiety,
Those people too, like big birds,
From life to eternity, they make their flight
Those people too, like big birds,
From life to eternity, they make their flight

And our spirit aspires to the sky,
To the native land flies a flock of people,
It’s time for me and the ground to say goodbye,
But wings do not rise to the sky.
It’s time for me and the ground to say goodbye,
But wings do not rise to the sky.

The hard way in life leads us,
The harsh law rules this world,
Only the strongest their way to the end will pass
And the weak on the road die.
Only the strongest their way to the end will pass
And the weak on the road die.

Clips on Sex

“Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.”
Oscar Wilde

In all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox and demand my Reasons. They are these:

    1. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stored with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreeable.
  1. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old woman who is not a good Woman.
  2. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produced may be attended with much Inconvenience.
  3. Because thro’ more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is, therefore, safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclined to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a Young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.
  4. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part:

    The Face first grows lank and wrinkled;
    then the Neck;
    then the Breast and Arms;
the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one.
And as in the dark, all cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.

  5. Because Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.

Breathly and Lastly They are so grateful!!”
Benjamin Franklin

By Ayn Rand…
“I want you, Hank. I’m much more of an animal than you think. I wanted you from the first moment I saw you – and the only thing I’m ashamed of is that I did not know it. I did not know why, for two years, the brightest moments I found were the ones in your office, where I could lift my head to look up at you. I did not know the nature of what I felt in your presence, nor the reason. I know it now. That is all I want, Hank. I want you in my bed – and you are free of me for all the rest of your time. There’s nothing you’ll have to pretend – don’t think of me, don’t feel; don’t care – I do not want your mind, your will, your being or your soul, so long as it’s to me you will come for that lowest one of your desires. I am an animal who wants nothing but the sensation of pleasure which you despise – but I want it from you. You’d give up my height of virtue for it, while I – I haven’t any to give up. There’s none I seek or wish to reach. I am so low that I would exchange the greatest sight of beauty in the world for the sight of your figure in the cab of a railroad engine. And seeing it, I would not be able to see it indifferently. You don’t have to fear that you’re now dependent on me. It’s I who will depend on any whim of yours. You’ll have me anytime you wish, anywhere, on any terms. Did you call it the obscenity of my talent? It’s such that it gives you a safer hold on me than on any other property you own. You may dispose of me as you please – I’m not afraid to admit it – I have nothing to protect from you and nothing to reserve. You think that this is a threat to your achievement, but it is not to mine. I will sit at my desk and work, and when the things around me get hard to bear, I will think that for my reward I will be in your bed that night. Did you call it depravity? I am much more depraved than you are: you hold it as your guilt, and I – as my pride. I’m more proud of it than anything I’ve done, more proud than of building the Line. If I’m asked to name my proudest attainment, I will say: I have slept with Hank Rearden. I had earned it.”

“Fireflies out on a warm summer’s night, seeing the urgent, flashing, yellow-white phosphorescence below them, go crazy with desire; moths cast to the winds an enchantment potion that draws the opposite sex, wings beating hurriedly, from kilometers away; peacocks display a devastating corona of blue and green and the peahens are all aflutter; competing pollen grains extrude tiny tubes that race each other down the female flower’s orifice to the waiting egg below; luminescent squid present rhapsodic light shows, altering the pattern, brightness, and color radiated from their heads, tentacles, and eyeballs; a tapeworm diligently lays a hundred thousand fertilized eggs in a single day; a great whale rumbles through the ocean depths uttering plaintive cries that are understood hundreds of thousands of kilometers away, where another lonely behemoth is attentively listening;
bacteria sidle up to one another and merge; cicadas chorus in a collective serenade of love; honeybee couples soar on matrimonial flights from which only one partner returns; male fish spray their spunk over a slimy clutch of eggs laid by God-knows-who; dogs, out cruising, sniff each other’s nether parts, seeking erotic stimuli; flowers exude sultry perfumes and decorate their petals with garish ultraviolet advertisements for passing insects, birds, and bats; and men and women sing, dance, dress, adorn, paint, posture, self-mutilate, demand, coerce, disassemble, plead, succumb, and risk their lives.

To say that love makes the world go around is to go too far. The Earth spins because it did so as it was formed and there has been nothing to stop it since. But the nearly maniacal devotion to sex and love by most of the plants, animals, and microbes with which we are familiar is a pervasive and striking aspect of life on Earth. It cries out for explanation. What is all this in aid of? What is the torrent of passion and obsession? Why will organisms go without sleep, without food, gladly put themselves in mortal danger for sex? … For more than half the history of life on Earth, organisms seem to have done perfectly well without it. What good is sex?… Through 4 billion years of natural selection, instructions have been honed and fine-tuned…sequences of As, Cs, Gs, and Ts, manuals written out in the alphabet of life in competition with other similar manuals published by other firms. The organisms become the means through which the instructions flow and copy themselves, by which new instructions are tried out, on which selection operates.

‘The hen,’ said Samuel Butler, ‘is the egg’s way of making another egg.’ It is on this level that we must understand what sex is for. … The sockeye salmon exhaust themselves swimming up the mighty Columbia River to spawn, heroically hurdling cataracts, in a single-minded effort that works to propagate their DNA sequences into the future generation. The moment their work is done, they fall to pieces. Scales flake off, fins drop, and soon–often within hours of spawning–they are dead and becoming distinctly aromatic.

They’ve served their purpose.

Nature is unsentimental.

“Death is built in.”Carl Sagan, Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors: A Search For Who We Are

“I missed you, Sebastian.”
“Really, love?” He unbuttoned her robe buttons. The light in the eyes glittering with heat as her skin was exposed.
“Which part did you miss the most?”
“Your mind,” she said, smiling at his expression.
“I was hoping a lot in a more corrupt response than that.”
“Your mind is corrupt,” she said seriously.
He gave the husky a laugh. “Real.”

Transl. by Maya

Only you, even though you were bad,
Your flowers I still have in my hand
I stroked them suddenly, though they were dry,
But only you gave them to me before.

And only you, even though you were a stranger,
My dreams, in them you are still mine,
Although I have been living all alone for a long time
I’m waiting for what will happen next.

You believe, how often at a night time,
I dreamed about you, my beloved and missed you.
My God, I’m still jealous,
Yes about that other jealous,
I kiss you in a dream,
telling myself, you’re still with me.

Only I, even though you have long gone,
My love, although the whole year pass,
But even now, as on that distant day,
I say to myself “You are close”.

And only I keep your love,
Understand me, I was so expecting that again
I will see your eyes and say:
“Do not leave me, do not.”

You believe, someday in the winter,
Maybe I will not be anymore,
I know, love will judge you,
At the crossroads of fate
Such as I will not be
Ever with you.

All the best…

Knowledge or Wisdom

Knowledge or Wisdom
by Maya

Hello, dear readers! Here I present a few lines of wisdom. There are not in any specific order, perhaps just clarifying some opinions on a difference between knowledge and wisdom.
I simply love quotes, as all who visited my sites could see. I do consider the quotes “short pearls of wisdom.”
Or let’s just say; in the least of words expression of opinion, life event, the conclusion of thinking and of thinkers.

Because there is no way an ignorant person could ever create a quote. On a contrary, he would most likely never grasp its sense. I had fun several times with a comment on some of my philosophical posts. I simply can’t resist responding to those, no matter how busy I am. And I make also a point to visit that person’s site if available. It is almost a hundred percent game site.
So, here is an example:

Comment:
“Now what you should think about that? I have no idea what it means.”
My response: “Perhaps your question should be corrected. You most likely meant “I”, not “WE.” But you’ll have great fun with your own site.

Well, this is life… still, my site is for readers and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again;
you, readers, and thinkers for visiting and for taking time to post your wonderful comments. You surely must know this is a fuel for me to go on, don’t you 😉

Government Takes Care Of Me

“People wanted desperately to be free of the government who “took care of them.”
Maya

“We who live in free-market societies believe that growth, prosperity, and ultimately human fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefiting from their success — only then can societies remain
economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people. This is the one irrefutable lesson of the entire postwar
period contradicting the notion that rigid government controls are essential to economic development.”
Ronald Reagan, American 40th US President

Government Takes Care Of Me
By Maya

Before commencing this article, let me ask you a question: “Do you like jokes?”
You know, those short stories where you should laugh, witty or stupid, sometimes funny or not (but still there always be someone who laughs and that’s surely welcomed for a joke teller…
Well, I am always for some fun, but I do appreciate a certain level of sophistication, real witty humor, preferably with some great twist.

However as in everything elsewhere, there is good and bad, so it is with jokes.
And being who I am, a survivor of socialism and communism with my own skin at stake at the time, I do consider this particular headline as a VERY, VERY BAD JOKE!
Actually, it’s sense only, otherwise, it is just a proper name for what I’m about to “stew” here.

Oh, one more note before I start – the picture is a genuine documentary picture from the communist’s era when people must wait in lines to obtain that precious commodity – toilet paper.
I used this picture already in part 4th of my series “Truth” – “ToiletPaper Lines” and if you by any chance read the series, this article could be over and above what you have learned already.

However, this is dedicated to all who “dream” that there is even a remote possibility that the government would take care of them.
(Sorry you can’t see me right now with a bitter smile fixed on.)
But that aside, I must tell you that the above quote from former president R. Reagan saved me some work, reminding you what personal freedom, a free society, and a free-market really mean for any country and its people. Please read it now and keep it in mind, because we are going to take a ride to places where something like that not even that long ago, was unthinkable.

Also, keep forever in your mind all that you had and took for granted at the time when people in countries behind the “iron curtain” struggled and anxiously waited for any glimpse of your freedom, your open opportunities, when you were envied every minute of the day.
Desire to be at your place was alive all that time and underground fights were going on steadily.
People wanted desperately to be free of the government who “took care of them.”

To be more precise, it really did, but in a completely different sense that all those so sorely misinformed might think.
It was one huge prison. No way to say what you think, no way to travel anywhere, no way to start any enterprise or even tiniest, most insignificant one-man business, no way to apply your talent, education, or special ability…
Why, you were sheep, one and all lost among others.

There wasn’t ANY support whatsoever. No unemployment benefits, no charities of any kind, but, 100 percent employment.

Ha! Everybody MUST work! So, there was artificial employment, (still, for statistics it sounded great… what a difference compared to capitalistic countries where people are unemployed) and everybody must be employed somehow, somewhere.

We were controlled on the streets, always carrying citizenship documents with our data and stamp where we worked. The end of employment was always stamped and we had a certain time to find another work.
If not, there were “nice” prisons, there was always work to do.
Therefore, under such circumstances and at the same time having a non-flexible economy on wooden legs, it wasn’t easy to support such a huge government monster controlling everybody and everything.
If you have an ounce of common sense and logic you must know that government doesn’t create or invent anything besides rules and regulations.

When there are so many people employed then must show some activity, so the invention of such has no end. Also, many rules and regulations were needed to oversee all these sheep to be properly obedient behind the gates. Plus no one must be elevated above the other, we are all “equal” and not even a remote chance for any advancement of an individual, no matter how talented, was possible.

Now, go ahead and read again words of President Reagan. What are the absolutes for any country’s success? Where only could thrive prosperity and where would rotten any prosperity?
Where people could be happier? Where talent could be utilized? Where progress could be made? Where the standard of living could rise? Would you tell me now? WHERE?

In a huge prison? Or in the open space without the gates?
Have you ever have to wait in endless lines for basic necessities? NO? Why not? Still cannot answer clearly? I tell you then again.

If there was a shortage of something, no matter how small and unimportant product or service, there suddenly was someone who started a small business offering it. And there are many things people need. Even a toilet paper…
Do you think that government, busy watching and regulating, controlling, and grabbing all profits to feed its existence and support its power, is business inclined, oriented and talented? That needs specialists. You know, those experts in business and marketing, development, etc… Looking for such a government among politics? Good luck!

And in a socialistic country? Really… Come on! That would create capitalists, those who would have to start their own business. And no matter how small it would be, still, that person would become “sheep out of the gate.” That is unthinkable.

So the government with all its ingenious planning simply made a “tiny” mistake here and there (Shhh…it wasn’t them, it was clearly some capitalistic sabotage envying superior results of the socialistic regime…)
Such as planning for toilet paper production plus hundreds of other things people needed in daily life, ( again, pssst, not their fold here either) so then people were forced to spend part of their “rich” lives hunting after necessities.

Unfortunately, as I’ve mentioned, there wasn’t any chance of a quick fix by someone starting any kind of production, so we had to wait for the next so-called “five-year plan” (that was how all was planned-for 5 years ahead) hoping that this timeless would be forgotten to fit in and some daring hopes were raised even that perhaps they would produce more colors on pants than two, so the whole nation would not be dressed like in uniforms.

Still, thinking the big government would take care of you? Of you, one sheep among many on one level, who would either work or go to work in prison? No TV there and gym neither. Oh, by the way, the gym wouldn’t be appreciated anyway because work was a hard labor my friends. And do you know what would be your dreams for the rest of your life?
Oh yes, it was somewhat better when there was a good economy going on led by people who understood the business, provided an opportunity for talent and inventions and market and all were available to buy? Then, just spoils of such a set-up alone could provide unemployment benefits and for needy food stamps, food banks, church help (by the way, I hope you know that communists are atheists, so no church support either) and so many charities…” end of dream…”

What charities? From whom? Companies?
There are no such companies. All belong to the government, just the same as you do.
Help from the rich?
There are not any rich. All are poor, as you are.
So from the government?
Well, do you remember I told you at the beginning that the name of this post is a Very, Very Bad joke?
Here you have it, your cherry on your cake.
No cake and no cherry? Oh sorry, I forgot for a while that the already government takes care of you.
I don’t feel like writing anymore and so you are done with reading. Perhaps the “light switch” got on? Just hope for that.
Always Stand Up for FREEDOM!

Why Communism Can’t Be Realized, Ever!

“My Creed”
By Dean Alfano

From The Flying W Ranch, Colorado Springs, CO
” I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon. I seek to develop whatever talents God gave me—not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any earthly master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say –
‘This, with God’s help, I have done.’ All this is what it means to be an American.”

I’ll Spend the Night in a Haystack …

“Without music, life would be a blank to me.”

I’ll Spend the Night in a Haystack …

I do love Russian Songs…
I wrote about this subject several times, so I skip it this time, still, there are many Russian songs I translated right here on my website.
Actually, the knowledge of how much on-demand these songs are I discovered on Quora, where I have been asked for translations, which I gladly made, also when I posted some of those on my previous websites. I do support better relationships among nations and always fought for the truth, trying to calm often intentional lies and outright misinformation about real facts…
So enjoy song performed by one of my favored composers and singers…

Жанна Бичевская: Заночую в стогу

I’ll spend the night in a haystack …
transl. by Maya

I’ll spend the night in a haystack, I’ll dig a hole like an animal
From big cities, running far, far away.
Midnight by the Milky Way will be grafted like with a homophobe.
And when the moon pours out, it will pail up mountains of the clouds.

From everywhere floats a delicate smell of a lilac shadow.
Grace, grace, the breast is filled with purity.
On my head, last year’s hay would fall
I’ll say goodbye to the constellation with the Polar Star.

Oh, holy times! Osculating holes of eternity,
I rub my eyes, smearing, like in a childhood a star.
No, not by bread alone lives the soul of a man,
All lives through you, creating this beauty.

And I will forget then, and no one, regretting, will remind
About the pursuit of the night what follows my heals.
The tipped bucket somewhere will feed the ground with rains
So in the morning be reaching to the ocean for freshwater.

And the world of the earth with the unimaginable Heaven hears the Creator,
Neither friends can be seen, nor the enemies following the trail.
And the fog, my fog, the smoke weightless veil
It will protect the fugitive from those seeking his soul.

Breathe free at night. Tomorrow will all be much easier.
The fog evaporates after serving its own dewdrop.
Nightingales sing, glorifying God, a forgotten grove.
And there is no one around, not counting the lost soul.

My note:
Zhanna is one of my favorite composers and singers. Her repertoire is huge and she is very much loved in Russia, where during the communist’s era, she must hide in underground… (as so many other talented people)

About Music

“Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind, and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.”

About Music
by Maya

Please allow me to call you my friends because you are all welcomed to my site as such. It really doesn’t matter what brought you here. Coincidence, curiosity, or search for that special “something”…

Whatever it is, no doubt it is surely certain “something” I would like to put here on a pedestal. Music.

Music is powerful, it is a balm, it can express all possible moods and feelings, and life without it would be like a rose without its flower and leaves, just a dry stick with thorns left.
Every nation has its very own music, but this one, Russia, due to its special history and superior inherited talent comes across as somewhat more significant.

I bet that all of you felt the power of music at any given time, have memories associated with it so strong that when you hear it, reminiscence presents itself momentarily.

A well-known fact is that hardship makes one stronger, and also more appreciative of all good. Hardship and suffering created great melodies, full of sadness, deep emotions, but also of hope and happiness.
I’ll pick, which it is not easy because actually, from many kinds of music deserving to be picked how beautiful it is, simply the one, I like best and do hope that you visit often to listen and like it as well.

I’ll translate all text in the best manner I can, but you must understand when there are rhymes in lyrics, I can’t keep those, as precise, so the translation is just to understand, of course. Still, your ear would tell you and you could enjoy listening to another language. If you’ll have any questions, feel free to ask…

After all, this is all for music lovers, for those who love and might still discover another kind of music and also for those who are sick from so many no-talents singing in such a way that my cat is straining her ears when she hears them considering them a competition. I know its times, but who could listen to that…

Therefore, now, please welcome to my world of music!
Well, after reading below a few beautiful says about music from those who know the best.
Maya

“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music”
Sergei Rachmaninov

“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks, and invents.”
Ludwig van Beethoven

“Music does bring people together.  It allows us to experience the same emotions.  People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit.  No matter what language we speak, what color we are,  the form of our politics or the expression of our love and    our faith, music proves: We are the same.”
John Denver

And last, few more words from me…

I do love music. I inherited my singing talent after my Russian mother and as a child and student, I always performed at all school celebrations, etc…
I was supposed to study singing… well, communists at those times did not support real talents, plus we were not communism approving family… However, those times are gone, but my love for music remained.
I am enclosing here one song from one of my beloved singers,
Dmitri Hvorostovsky called also a bariton of the century, whom Russia lost several years ago due to brain cancer.
Endless thousands of music lovers will miss him forever as I would as well.

About Russian Music

I have chosen one of the songs He performed and I love, plus this one also shows English translation on the screen, so…ENJOY!
Thank you for visiting!
Best regards,
Maya

Living Your Own Life

“Live life so completely that when death comes to you like a thief in the night there will be nothing left for him to steal.”

Living Your Own Life
By Maya

When I think about life and all its “mysteries” I admit sometimes finding myself in a maze. I always say; “there are so many things between heaven and earth” that we’ll never know…But still, there is an endless, bottomless well of knowledge to be found during our lives through reading, learning, observing, experiencing, listening, so much breathtaking beauty in nature; mountains and seas, rivers and meadows, forests and flower fields, sun and moon, stars in the night, music… so many happenings short just of miraculous that could take our breath away at any unexpected moment, events in life that often cause even wildest fantasy to fade out…love and happiness could be found and make life so fulfilled and worth living every minute of it.

Of course, there is sadness and sorrow, hardship and worry, stress, and the daily fight for survival, but that is also part of living. It is needed to make us stronger; when we conquer our difficulties, makes us smarter by taking a lesson from what we experienced and it also makes us more human when we find compassion for others when we share…

I do not wish to repeat what I have already said about my own life, how rich it was on unusual events and hardship and losses… but to confirm again how strong it made me as a woman and human being and how it taught me to value life, appreciate every day, finding joy in the simplest things and always seek to know more, to learn more, to understand more. I’ve been told that I know so much…well, perhaps, but comparing to whom, to what? I know nothing. These are words of one of my favored philosophers, great Socrates, and I keep it in my mind, always.

Regardless, how much you learn, how much you think you know, there is so much more to know that thousands of lives can’t absorb that knowledge. We are so limited, but at the same time always have sufficient things to discover, learn, admire, enjoy. I can continue in this line for miles, but…
You might wonder why I’m telling you all that?

I do have a specific reason for it.
You know there is one thing that would always be amazement for me.
I shall never, ever understand it and I freely admit it. Actually, to be more precise, it is even shocking for me. Nevertheless, it is so wildly spread that sometimes I think I am simply from another planet and not being aware of it.
Do you wish to know what it is?
Of course, I must tell you, coming that far…

There is a phenomenon that seems to be accepted and even not considered as weird, which is following and admiring celebrities and that without any discrimination. Following their movements, habits, fashion, opinions (that’s a good one!) their very life. And through that activity, really living, at least imaginatively, their lives, not your own. Spending so precious time of your life hunting after every low gossip, randomly taken picture, awaiting anxiously (mostly really so revealing stupidity) every word… this is just incomprehensible to me.

I can’t imagine myself to waste even a single second of my life to pay attention to any of that. You know, I love to live my own life. Above, I gave you some ideas about why. And trust me, it is just a fraction of all the reasons I could come up with.
I do not wish to offend any celebrity, it is not my intention at all, I just simply don’t care. Unfortunately, one can’t avoid that entire “hallo” around them, because all media making living out of something that so many are so fond of.

Again, I’m sorry to say this, but very seldom I could overhear something any celebrity does or says that warrant the slightest attention. Intelligence in those circles is scarce. I suppose that’s why they try to sway attention showing their “butts” all the time. But it seems to work and so much desired attention (and that’s what they thrive on) is always needed and rewarded.

Sometimes I think this fact itself is entertaining. The people themselves are. Don’t get me wrong, I do not expect from actors, models and similar to produce any deep thinking, because that can’t happen even if they try very hard. What I mean is, it would be much better for us and especially for them not to try to express ANY opinions on politics, economy, environment, etc… besides so very few and those I could name counting my fingers. (On hands only 😉 )

When you know something, a little, about history, it is all matter of time. The acting was always in history considered as the lowest of occupations. Small acting groups traveled constantly across the land and performed their plays wherever they had a chance, often for a pittance or only food. They were real beggars and had no social status. (Actually, doctors had practically very similar social status in those times.)

Now we live in times when cards did turn around and those who became popular enjoy great wealth and attention, are celebrated by their admirers. How very lucky for them. But all that money and good life don’t make them smarter, better, or extra special. Or, rather say, they might be special, but not in always acceptable behavior, again, not knowing any better. You can’t take the country out of Johnny. So we can’t expect a wit from young girls without manners, basic morals and lack of education. You got what you see and that’s not much, really. You accept it, well; it’s your choice.

However, by accepting too freely and live by admiration of real emptiness, you are destroying your own life that could be richer, better, happier, and most of all, your own. You could create your own memories to cherish and tell your children;
“Your mama loved and lived and felt her own life.”
That beautiful tale before your child falls asleep certainly should not be only about your knowledge of what celebrity XYZ had on, showed off, and coughed up.
That wish should have your own “lived-in” experience and that way has something more of value to convey. Want to be a woman of your own, not just a shadow of some empty-headed creature that has been made famous by those who chose her/him as a source of income for various media, that is still only: “known today and forgotten by tomorrow.”

Realize that acting is, in reality, the only occupation. Occupation imitating someone else. It is great to have entertainment, of course. I also like good films, etc… But for me, these people are doing their job, as you do yours. It is just as using some product someone made in a factory, by a human unknown to me. For their benefit, they coincidentally live in times that are favorable to their particular occupation and provide greater reward than it should. That’s all.
All the best wishes,
Maya

When I Feel Lonely…

The rest is totally uninterested for me. I couldn’t care less what any actress/actor does in their personal life.
I have my own life to live. Try to live yours and dig into richness of everything there is offered to you by just being alive. Trust me, you could become so happy and involved with a real thing, so fulfilled… that when someone mentions to you what at that particular moment some “celebrity” said, did…you might say: “Who?” Hmm….and smile secretly inside…
I wish you all happy, fulfilling life!
Best Regards,
Maya

The Mystery of The Tree

“What’s meant to be will always find a way”
Trisha Yearwood

The Mystery of The Tree
transl. by Maya

For me, trees have always been the most penetrating preachers. I revere them when they live in tribes and families, in forests and groves. And even more, I revere them when they stand alone. They are like lonely persons.

Not like hermits who have stolen away out of some weakness, but like great, solitary men, like Beethoven and Nietzsche. In their highest boughs, the world rustles, their roots rest in infinity, but they do not lose themselves there, they struggle with all the force of their lives for one thing only: to fulfill themselves according to their own laws, to build up their own form, to represent themselves.

Nothing is holier, nothing is more exemplary than a beautiful, strong tree. When a tree is cut down and reveals its naked death-wound to the sun, one can read its whole history in the luminous, inscribed disk of its trunk: in the rings of its years, its scars, all the struggle, all the suffering, all the sickness, all the happiness, and prosperity stand truly written, the narrow years and the luxurious years, the attacks withstood, the storms endured. And every young farmboy knows that the hardest and noblest wood has the narrowest rings, that high on the mountains and in continuing danger the most indestructible, the strongest, the ideal trees grow.

Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life. A tree says:
A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life. The attempt and the risk that the eternal mother took with me is unique, unique the form and veins of my skin, unique the smallest play of leaves in my branches and the smallest scar on my bark. I was made to form and reveal the eternal in my smallest special detail.

A tree says: My strength is trust. I know nothing about my fathers, I know nothing about the thousand children that every year spring out of me. I live out the secret of my seed to the very end, and I care for nothing else. I trust that God is in me. I trust that my labor is holy. Out of this trust, I live.

When we are stricken and cannot bear our lives any longer, then a tree has something to say to us: Be still! Be still! Look at me! Life is not easy, life is not difficult. Those are childish thoughts. Let God speak within you, and your thoughts will grow silent. You are anxious because your path leads away from mother and home. But every step and every day leads you back again to the mother. Home is neither here nor there. Home is within you, or home is nowhere at all.

A longing to wander tears my heart when I hear trees rustling in the wind in the evening. If one listens to them silently for a long time, this longing reveals its kernel, its meaning. It is not so much a matter of escaping from one’s suffering, though it may seem to be so. It is a longing for home, for a memory of the mother, for new metaphors for life. It leads home. Every path leads homeward, every step is birth, every step is death, every grave is a mother.

Restful Moment For You

So the tree rustles in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own childish thoughts: Trees have long thoughts, long-breathing and restful, just as they have longer lives than ours. They are wiser than we are, as long as we do not listen to them.
But when we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness.
